Welcome to 'Broken Arrow'
Introduction

US Infantry Battalion
Ever since I first started wargaming the Vietnam War I have held the vision of large-scale, sweeping, battalion-sized battles. Numerous things prevented me from realising this vision, such as figure-scale, figure availability, expense, time, rules availability and so forth. Consequently, like most other gamers of this period I have for the most part of my gaming life, stuck with the tried and tested, namely 15mm and 20mm skirmish gaming.
Some time ago I started writing my own rules for Vietnam (never finished them) and decided to go with 10mm figures (see my Vietnam Collections). I now have a substantial collection of these.
The figures have never really been used since I didn't finish writing my own rules (and used the figures only for play-testing) and no other rules set that I knew of allowed me to play games of Battalion sized or larger.
Broken Arrow is my attempt to chronicle and show-case my 10mm collection and the fun that I am having using them with Cold War Commander.
Should I become President...I will not risk American lives...by permitting any other nation to drag us into the wrong war at the wrong place at the wrong time through an unwise commitment that is unwise militarily, unnecessary to our security and unsupported by our allies. - John F. Kennedy, 1960
Now we have a problem in making our power credible, and Vietnam is the place. - John F. Kennedy, 1961
Here come the Cav!
Although the rules for helicopter assaults in CWC are not entirely to my liking, no Vietnam game could be without them. If you want to use an Air Cav battlegroup then you're going to need some decent helicopter models. This picture of a UH-1D 'Slick' (Pendraken) is from my collection and I will be dealing with the Cav in a later article.
