My 10mm Vietnam Wargaming Collections
I started collecting Vietnam figures a long time ago, inspired by Barrie Lovell's modified Crossfire rules. My initial collection consisted of Peter Pig 15mm scale figures. I subsequently went on to collecting 10mm figures in order to be able to field larger forces.
My 15mm collection is now as complete as I intend and I have not added to it for some time. It is unlikely that I will expand it further since it is about as complete as I intend to make it. The other reason that it will not be expanded further is that I decided that 15mm scale was too limiting in terms of what I wanted to do.
For some time I was involved in writing my own Vietnam rules - a combination of Crossfire and Games Workshop's Epic battles. I purchased figures from Pendraken and based them according to the rules that I was writing. My collection of 10mm Vietnam figures is reasonasbly substantial - equivalent to a Battalion of each Americans, Vietcong and North Vietnamese - in 1:1 scale.
In 2009 I purchased a copy of Pete Jones' rule set Cold War Commander which I found to be excellently suited to the use of 10mm figures. The rules are fast-play, relatively easy to learn but with a command-and-control system that produces some nail-biting situations. They are also ideally suited to the scale of games that I wanted to play.
Unfortunately, the quality of figure basing produced by players of these rules far exceeds that which I produced in the initial rush to develop large force concentrations for my own rules. Having said that, I have no intention of re-basing the hundreds of stands that I already posses.
These pages will present my existing 10mm collection of figures and follow it as I expand it further and as more nationalities are added. It will comprise of my current figures and my planned purchases.
